(The Center Square) – Although the U.S. House passed Republicans' “Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act” before leaving until the new year, Illinois U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Rockford, says Congress left without a final deal that includes extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, leaving millions at risk of higher 2026 premiums.

Pennsylvania health care advocates warn a pending vote in Congress could sharply raise insurance costs for hundreds of thousands of residents, as federal tax credits that help people afford coverage under the Affordable Care Act are set to expire at the end of the year. At a press call this week, advocates said Pennsylvania could be among the states hardest hit if the credits are not extended, pointing to data from the state’s insurance marketplace showing steep premium increases ahead.

(The Center Square) – U.S. House Republicans have finally introduced their own health care plan and have scheduled a vote for this week; however, given Democratic opposition, Congress will likely recess for Christmas after failing to pass any legislation cushioning the blow of rising premiums in 2026.
